The Great American Home Movie Project
The Great American Home Movie is a feature-length documentary capturing the American experience from 1946 to 1976 through home movies. Using real 8mm and 16mm film footage shot by everyday Americans, the documentary showcases life’s milestones—from backyard cookouts to historic events—set to an original score by Steve Dorff.
The Vision of Robert Hanley
Robert Hanley, the creator of Home Video Studio, directed and edited The Great American Home Movie. A passionate filmmaker, Hanley began his journey in the '70s and founded a national video franchise focused on digitizing home movies. His vision is to preserve Americana by archiving thousands of hours of film into a cohesive story of American life.
Casting Call
We're seeking Americans aged 40+ who lived between 1946–1976. If you or your family filmed or appeared in home movies during that time, you could be part of this documentary. Interviews will be conducted in person or virtually. To audition, email robert@greatamericanhomemovieproject.com.
About the Composer: Steve Dorff
Steve Dorff is an award-winning composer whose music spans film, television, and pop. He brings a rich emotional layer to the documentary’s storytelling, with credits including hits like Kenny Rogers' 'Through The Years' and work with Clint Eastwood.
